Welcome to the British Miniature Locomotive Database

This website is the logical continuation of a long-standing archive held by the late Dave Holroyde and now by Nigel Mundy, listing and providing details about miniature locomotives in the British Isles.

The aim is to build up a comprehensive and accurate archive of information about these interesting locomotives, to be useful for historians, future owners, and railway enthusiasts.

This site reproduces much of the data contained in the publications Miniature Steam Railways in the British Isles and 7 1/4" (184mm) etc. Gauge Miniature Steam Locomotives in the British Isles, both compiled by Nigel Mundy who is also involved with this project. The initial source was the 2017 editions of these booklets, plus errata and corrections made since they were published.

Miniature Railway magazine coverThis website is supported and updated by David Henshaw and his Miniature Railway magazine. You can subscribe to print and/or digital editions for up-to-date news and information, from miniature railways across the world.

Miniature Railway magazine fills the gaps left by other publications. We specialise in 5″, 7.25″, 9.5″, 10.25″, 12.25″ and 15″ miniature railways – both the commercial and garden varieties – and touch upon just about anything, either scale, miniature or narrow gauge from 5″ to 3' 6″.
